There’s a “new” app in town and you’re either really excited or already exhausted at the news. TikTok while it’s been around for a year or so, is still relatively new in comparison to apps like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Fortunately I think you’ve happened across this article right on time. I’ve never been in a position to get in on an app early so I’ve been taking full advantage by playing around with it. I’m still learning and experimenting, but I wanted to share some creative ways fashion and beauty bloggers can use the app. Now I’m no marketing expert, but what I am good at is coming up with creative ways to do things. So I decided to share some of those creative ideas here. Every content creator that I’ve talked to about Tiki’s Tok has 1 one of many concerns.
- I’m too old for this sh!t. There’s just a bunch of young kids on here cosplaying, and doing crazy things for clout.
- I don’t know what to do on it. This is so foreign and unlike blogging or Instagram.
- Not here for looking silly.
Trust me all of these thoughts may run through your head as you venture into this new foreign land. No need to freak out, and I’m glad you’re here. Keep reading as we dive into the ways bloggers use TikTok.
The One Thing Everyone Should Do With Tik Tok
SECURE YOUR BRAND’S HANDLE.
Even if you aren’t sure what the heck to do with Tik Tok. You know that tip about having the same social media handle everywhere because it’s easier for your followers to find you across platforms? Yeah! That goes for TikTok too. I’ve already seen several big name brand handles secured by random people. While I’m sure they’ll be able to get their handles when they’re ready, it may not be so easy for the average blogger if the name’s already taken. Ok now here’s some different ways beauty and fashion bloggers use TikTok.
Creative Ways Bloggers Use TikTok
Regular to Fashionable Transformations
It can be as simple as recording yourself for 5 seconds of the 15 seconds in a Tik Tok post, and transitioning to your outfit or beat face for the last 10 seconds. This works for home decor before and after transformations too! Here’s an example of a TikTok I did highlighting the before and after transformation of my living room for Christmas.

OOTD Videos
Whether you share an outfit of the day or what you wore in a week, it’s all up to you. In reality you can do both. Just film yourself for a solid 10 seconds in each outfit, and put them together using a mobile editing app like InShot. Then upload that video to TikTok and add a sound that matches up with the video or works reasonably well.
You can also do this in real time by changing out of of multiple outfits and executing the video on the spot.
Hair Transformation
Here’s one way hair bloggers use TikTok. Put together a fun before and after Tik Tok of your hair styles. Record yourself before the hair style for a few seconds. Then record your hair style when you’re all done up. Put the two clips together, add some fun transitions, and trim the video down the time limit. Then add a sound that you like to the video before posting it. In the TikTok below I recorded 2 second clips of each stage of my red crochet hairstyle while I was recording the full length YouTube tutorial.

Talk Through Tips
If you are an educator in your niche, You can also create longer 60 second videos. This is perfect for content that doesn’t necessarily need a blog post or a lengthy YouTube video. Whether it’s a tip on how you get your thigh high boots to stay up, or your 3 favorite lotions to combat ashy skin in the winter.
Get In On The Trends
Tik Tok is definitely meant to be more fun app (hopefully it doesn’t get too serious and curated like Instagram) , but I’m sure it will. TikTokers create so many viral #challenges and trends that you can easily align with your platforms purpose.
For example. There’s a trend that I can only explain as “the game character” trend. You literally stand in one spot and pivot back and forth like a game character waiting to be selected. Then you list all the hilarious things about the character.
@froplusfashion Who’s the Cool Christmas Mom you know? #christmas #christmaslook #karenchallenge #christmasshopping

In this case , I was dressed up for a photoshoot looking like those cool moms that have all their stuff together and has Christmas under control. I used that look to not only get in on the trend, but aligned Lane Bryant’s poncho and turtleneck with the content. It took me 2 minutes to knock out.
Make Teasers (Show Beginning & End Results)
You can also make teasers or trailers to content you’ve created in other platforms. Let’s say you did a hair or makeup tutorial and you wanted cross promote in TikTok. Share videos before and after videos that only give the viewers a taste of the full length video on another platform.
Document Surroundings
Wanderlust is real so give the people a glimpse of where you are. Locations with gorgeous landscapes and jaw dropping views like the TikTok below seem to do really well. You can also condense your day into a 15 sec or 1 minute vlog style snippet. That can also be repurposed as a teaser video to a full length video on other platforms like IGTV or YouTube.
Parody Real Life Situations
Have some fun all while bringing light to issues that you’ve experienced that your followers can relate to. Plus size fashion bloggers use TikTok to spread a little body positive self loving content in funny ways. Here’s an example of how I flexed my unbothered-ness to the fatphobes while uplifting anyone that my be self conscious about wearing crop tops.

Bloggers Use TikTok In Ways That Aligns with Their Brand
Tik Tok has a plethora of content niche from comedy, to cosplay, to aesthetic inspiration. However the delivery style (for lack of better words) won’t work for every niche or every individual for that matter. Cursing, sexually suggestive antics, etc. are factors potential brands may not want to be associated with. Then again there are brands that my align with that depending on what they’re all about. Something to think about.
Don’t Get Caught Up In Getting Tik Tok Famous
Hey if it happens it happens, but TikTok is still a social media platform. Don’t get caught up in likes and the numbers. Focus on the community of people that are following you and continue to create the content you all enjoy.
I feel like TikTok is the one place where the content doesn’t have to be perfectly curated and serious. I hope you found this super helpful and if you did be sure to share this post on social media!
