This is the first installment of my series Touring Tallahassee in which I explore share with you local businesses and happenings in Tallahassee and surrounding areas. Hope you enjoy, share, and support!
Hey ladies! In my Spring into Style Plus Size Spring Outfit Post I wrapped up Women’s History Month in a big way by attending a Tallahassee event called Boss Women Weekend. Boss Women Weekend, an annual 2-day women empowerment/education event, was created by Angel Olofin who is also the CEO of BossWomen Tally, a group of women with existing businesses and those that are working towards becoming boss women. Here are 5 tips for ladies on their journey to becoming boss women.
5 Gems to Becoming Boss Women
Letting Go Of Fear
Like Yours But You Rent It
Own Your Pain and Share It
This one is definitely a challenge and something I struggle with sharing and that is sharing your whole story. Don’t wait until you’ve made it to share your story, your struggles, and your pain. When you stand in your truth and share with your audience along the way, it’s easier for them to relate to you especially if they are going have or are still in the same situation you went through. It creates a connection that encourages them to follow along and be inspired to go through their own journey’s. While we live in a society where the struggle doesn’t take center stage, it makes anyone that is brave enough to share realness stand out. So even if you have to share your story little by little, do it, and if you’re afraid, be encouraged by gem #1 .
Cultivate Your Community
Build Your Credit
Whether you want to own a home or not, you cannot get far without building credit. Jacquelyn Calloway, owner of Credit Rx, holds all the gems on how to build your credit, and how you could be hurting it. Many, myself included, are apprehensive to own a credit card based on the horror stories many have shared surrounding them. However, if you find the right credit card for you and use it responsibly (as in not maxing it out, cancelling it, or even not paying off your balance each month) she explained that it could make a huge difference in what you get from a mortgage, car loan, and other financial ventures. Something as simple as getting a credit card, and automating the charge of small subscription service like Netflix can boost your credit score to 100 in a matter of months.
All in all Boss Women Weekend was very empowering, informative, and encouraging. I left encouraged to do more, make more connections, and go after whatever it is that I want out of life. I would definitely recommend anyone in the Tally area and beyond to join the Boss Women Tally group and stay posted.
Special thanks to Angel Olofin for granting me access to such an amazing event.
