Monday apparently was Mix and Match Monday for me. I don’t know if it has to do with my new pair of Ray Bans, but all of a sudden I’m developing an eye for mixing prints and patterns.
This outfit is a great example of how you can get into the swing of mixing prints and patterns if you’re not to familiar with it.
The trick is to find pieces with similarities. It’s easier to mix two prints when they have at least one similarity. This Faded Glory tank from Walmart and this checkered midi skirt from Rainbowshops actually have two similarities so that’s even better.
The obvious similarity is that they’re both black & white. Keeping the pieces of your outfit in the same color family is your best bet.
The black squares in checkered skirt are about the same size as the black brush strokes in the tank. That latter similarity is what makes each piece blend will together. Matching pieces with similar pattern scales will give you that effect time and time again.
I don’t mix and match prints and patterns often, but I felt so accomplished with this outfit. I’m inspired more than anything to start doing it more often.
