Some say the higher the heels the closer to heaven. Well I say the flatter the shoes the more down to Earth. In other words, I’m a huge fan of flats. You’ll most likely find me in them going about my 9 to 5 day, strolling the park catching Pokèmon with my fam, playing with my son on the playground, or just because I love comfy shoes. Ballet flats are making a comeback as spotted here.
They’re cute, but the $495 price tag would make most everyday peeps with families to feed pirouette right on out of a store. This DIY version will make you leap (jéte) for joy because it literally takes 10 minutes to create and costs under $10.
What you’ll need:
A pair of flats (I got mine for $5)
Ribbon
Scissors
Permanent fabric glue
Clothes pins or binder clips
Cut 2 tabs of ribbon that extend as high above the shoe that matches the width of your ribbon.
Glue the ends of each tab together leaving room for the width of the ribbon to be able to pass through.
Glue the end of each tab to the inside of the back of each flat. Use a binder clip to ensure the tab dries securely to the flat.
Cut two strips of ribbon to the length you desire for your ballet straps.Fold the raw edges inward twice, and glue or stitch into place. Use binder clips to ensure it dries securely.
YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY PIN THIS!
Insert your straps into the tabs and voila! Ballet flats at an astounding price difference. I will definitely be wearing these to work this fall. Let’s hope no one catches me attempting a plié during my lunch break stretch.
