Tired of extra tight buns or puffs that have your edges dwindling and your eyebrows raised permanently like this?
Ok maybe that was an exaggeration but that’s definitely how it should not feel.
Tired of hair bands that snap before you even double them or hair ties that cost too much? Here’s a ridiculously easy hairband and headband DIY that is the answer to those problems.
Get yourself some elastic cord like in the photo below in gorgeous prints of all kinds. This pack cost me just under $3 at Walmart. They’re wide and flat, which makes it more difficult to roll and snag your hair throughout the day or when you’re taking them off.
I also love that you can get them in pretty prints that are different from basic solid color headbands. Even better, they have a satin finish which is also great for minimizing snagging that could result in unnecessary breakage.
Simply take your strip of elastic and use an old hair band that you’ll probably throw away after this DIY, to measure out the length for your new and improved elastic hair bands. Add about half an inch to that length and the cut it.
To make headbands wrap the elastic around your head where it will usually rest when you wear it to get the length you need. Subtract about a half an inch from that length to ensure that it fits snugly on your head.
Take the two ends of your elastic strip (pretty sides together or the back sides together) and create a knot on the end.
Measure, cut, knot, and repeat until you have more headbands and hair bands than you know what to do with.
All that’s left is to do enjoy your new, truly ouchless, and cost-efficient hair bands and headbands. You’re welcome edges!
