I’m just about packed and ready to go to New York to the Curvy Con! I’m super excited to be going because when I started blogging and creating videos on YouTube in the Virgin Islands I felt like access to events like this one would never be in my reach. Fast forward to 2018 and I’m going! Woohoo! Ok so this post is really about how I prepare for blogger events and I’m using my preparation for the Curvy Con as an example.
How I Prepare for Blogger Events
Blogger Event Tickets
More often than not, tickets to blogger events are made available for sale well in advance of the event date. This gives you more than enough time to sort out travel expenses in as much time as you need. Purchasing the blogger event ticket should be top priority especially if the event is extremely popular.
Flights
When it comes to flights I’ve always had the best luck with booking through Priceline, but you should always shop around! Compare prices through the different discount travel sites like Priceline and the prices given on the airline websites as well.
Hotels
When it comes to hotels, location is everything! Some blogger events offer a block hotel rooms with rates that may or may not be discounted. It’s very convenient to have a room located close to or right where the event is going to be even if it’s not affiliated with the blogger event. The distance between your hotel and the location of the event may also be a huge factor. While you may have saved on the hotel rate, the commute time may cost you if you’re using taxis and services like Uber. All things to keep in mind.
Check the Weather
With all the advance planning you can do, a sudden change in weather can make them epic fails. So check at least a couple days before you travel to make sure your looks are actually best for the weather.
Essentials to Prepare for Blogger Events
Memory Cards
Walk with at least a couple memory cards with loads of room for photos and video. The longer the event the more space you will need. You may also want to pack a small hard drive to store the each day’s footage at the end of the day to make sure it’s backed up in a secure space.
Charging Banks
Between Instagram stories, snapping pictures here and there, and checking out all the fun things to do in the area, your phone’s battery life will need a boost at least once each day.
Business Cards
You never know who you’ll meet and connect with wherever you go so pack a handful of business cards everywhere you go. Most people connect via Instagram these days but there’s nothing that beats a tangible card that will help you stick out from the tons of people your new connects are following on social media platforms.
Comfy Footwear
Now this a challenge especially if you’re going to a style related event, but where there’s a will there’s a way. Whether it’s sneakers, sandals, or heels choose footwear that you can stand or walk in for long periods of time. Pretty doesn’t always have to hurt! Low heels, kitten heels, and block heels are all great options.
Room for Shopping
The Curvy Con will have loads of vendors from some of my favorite plus size brands and I’ve heard the VIP goodie bags are on another level. Even if your blogger event doesn’t have a marketplace to shop you may want to leave room in your luggage for souvenir shopping!
Plan Outfits Based on Activities
Look at your event schedule to determine how many outfits you’ll actually need and add outfits for activities before and/ or after the events as well.
So that’s how I prepare for blogger events like theCurvyCon!
