Sooo I’ve been meaning to open up shop and give my supporters the opportunity to shop my closet. The one thing that has held me back from doing it is the work. I assumed it was going to be a time consuming process to set up a shop, post the pieces, promote them, and ship them. Girl was I wrong! I’m about to move from one home to another and I figured now is the best time to give Poshmark a try. Poshmark is a site (and an app) that allows you to sell and buy clothes (and other things) that you don’t want. So I’ve been signed up for about a week now, and I’m shook at how easy it is to sell clothing on Poshmark. So shook in fact that I had to highlight my favorite features about it so far.
Favorite Features of Poshmark
Photography Feature
After granting access to your phones camera, you can take photos of your clothing right through the app. A lot of the clothing I post on there I’ve also taken photos in as well. The app makes it so easy to add those as well. There’s nothing like having a visual of what the clothes look like on an actual body to help potential customers decide on a purchase.
Listing Made Easy
I mean it literally takes 2 – 3 minutes to list an item on Poshmark.
- Title – Use a title that includes the best keywords that someone looking for it would use. For example, “plus size striped wide leg pants” would be a better title than “striped pants”.
- Description – I copy and paste the title into the description and add other information that the seller should know. I include the size, the color, how the item fits, and the material just to name a few. If there are any flaws to the garment (missing button, tiny pen stain, etc.), include that.
- Everything Else – Everything else takes very little time because you’re just choosing from drop box menus.
- Pricing – Poshmark takes the guesswork out of what you take home after shipping fees are deducted. You simply type in the listing price, and your profit is automatically calculated. If you want to profit more or less, you adjust the price accordingly.
Shipping and Handling
The only thing that’s easier than the listing process is Poshmark’s shipping process.
Once a purchase has been made from your “closet” (that’s what your feed is called), you will be asked to enter your mailing information. After that a pre-paid shipping label is automatically created and made available for download. The label can be used with any USPS Priority Mail / Flat Rate Boxes (NOT EXPRESS). Take the package the post office and once they scan it, Poshmark sends tracking information to you and the buyer.
Thrifting Made Easy
Poshmark is a great alternative to thrifting. So many of my favorite brands are right here on Poshmark at deeply discounted prices. Even if the prices may not be as low as I would like I can actually negotiate, by making an offer. Sellers and buyers can offer and counter offer until either party accepts the proposed price. I originally offered a plus size fringe jacket from River Island for $45, but through negotiating with an interested buyer I accepted a counter for $35. Not bad for a jacket I would have otherwise donated and received nothing for.
Bundles
If you’re on a really good Poshmark page, you may see more than one piece of clothing that you want to buy and that’s where bundles come in. You can add multiple pieces together in a bundle and get a slight discount which makes it cost less than if you were to buy each piece individually. Sellers get notifications when customers bundle multiple pieces. They can either offer a shipping discount or knock a few dollars off the price to encourage a purchase.
All in all I’ve only been using Poshmark for a week, but I’m happy with it. If anything changes then I’ll definitely make updates to this post. I hope you found it helpful and I’ve convinced you to at least give it a try. If you do decide to join use this link to get $10 to start shopping and selling.
