I’m just about packed and ready to go to New York to the Curvy Con! I’m super excited to be going because when I started blogging and creating videos on YouTube in the Virgin Islands I felt like access to events like this one would never be in my reach. Fast forward to 2018 and I’m going! Woohoo! Ok so this post is really about how I prepare for blogger events and I’m using my preparation for the Curvy Con as an example.
More often than not, tickets to blogger events are made available for sale well in advance of the event date. This gives you more than enough time to sort out travel expenses in as much time as you need. Purchasing the blogger event ticket should be top priority especially if the event is extremely popular.
When it comes to flights I’ve always had the best luck with booking through Priceline, but you should always shop around! Compare prices through the different discount travel sites like Priceline and the prices given on the airline websites as well.
When it comes to hotels, location is everything! Some blogger events offer a block hotel rooms with rates that may or may not be discounted. It’s very convenient to have a room located close to or right where the event is going to be even if it’s not affiliated with the blogger event. The distance between your hotel and the location of the event may also be a huge factor. While you may have saved on the hotel rate, the commute time may cost you if you’re using taxis and services like Uber. All things to keep in mind.
With all the advance planning you can do, a sudden change in weather can make them epic fails. So check at least a couple days before you travel to make sure your looks are actually best for the weather.

Hey ladies! In my Spring into Style Plus Size Spring Outfit Post I wrapped up Women’s History Month in a big way by attending a Tallahassee event called Boss Women Weekend. Boss Women Weekend, an annual 2-day women empowerment/education event, was created by Angel Olofin who is also the CEO of BossWomen Tally, a group of women with existing businesses and those that are working towards becoming boss women. Here are 5 tips for ladies on their journey to becoming boss women.
The general consensus shared at Boss Women Weekend was that there are so many talented individuals with big dreams and aspirations that don’t follow through with pursuing them all because of FEAR. Fear of failure, fear of the amount of work that’s involved in achieving your goals, and even the fear of what you will become if you succeed. In addition to that we often wait until something traumatic or soul crushing happens to which causes us to go forward with that goal (because there we’ve hit the bottom).
While everyone has to start somewhere and many of us start by renting our homes and the things we need to grow our businesses. The end goal should be to out right own. Realtor, Lindsay Thompson, shared figures on what renters pay over 5 years in comparison to what home owners pay. The outcome was staggering. Seriously, if you’re renting like I currently am, take your monthly rate multiply it by 12 and then by 5. That’s practically a down payment on a house! In today’s market most homes increase in value over time so even if you’re in your home for a few years, the investment is still beneficial if you decide to sell it or move on and make it a rental property. So make money moves that help you to secure several bags.
This one is definitely a challenge and something I struggle with sharing and that is sharing your whole story. Don’t wait until you’ve made it to share your story, your struggles, and your pain. When you stand in your truth and share with your audience along the way, it’s easier for them to relate to you especially if they are going have or are still in the same situation you went through. It creates a connection that encourages them to follow along and be inspired to go through their own journey’s. While we live in a society where the struggle doesn’t take center stage, it makes anyone that is brave enough to share realness stand out. So even if you have to share your story little by little, do it, and if you’re afraid, be encouraged by gem #1 .
Speaking of making connections, sharing your story will help you to create the community that will help to support you and whatever it is you are pursuing. According to the speakers, 3 great ways to cultivate your community are by creating things for the kind of people that you want to attract, networking, and providing memorable customer service.
Whether you want to own a home or not, you cannot get far without building credit.

Here are my favorite clapbacks to the "dress your age" stigma from the 2017 The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo.

Hello August! This month high key means the end of summer for me. This summer was extra sweet because I had a little bit more freedom since my son spent his summer in the Virgin Islands. I was able to got to a few events to make connections, learn, and be inspired.
Most recently I attended the The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s the 3rd Annual TCF Style Expo to be put all the way on by plus size fashion pioneer Marie Denee.
This was my 1st fashion related event since relocating to the US and I’m glad that it was my 1st. While everyone shopped to their hearts content and slayed at each day of the 2 day event, there was a lot more to the TCF Style Expo than that.
We spoke about pressing issues in the plus size fashion industry like the lack of representation on ALL platforms of our favorite clothing companies. I listened in on panels about the social stigmas and generational insecurities that have inadvertently influenced the way we feel about and carry our plus size bodies. The plus size men showed up and show out by speaking about their struggles in finding plus size clothing they liked from fit to quality.
I’m calling this the Lemonade dress. I’ve never really worn a print with fruits on it before and this Ashley Stewart dress was a great way to check that off my “Tried it” list. While it was not form fitting the pop of shoulders with the ruffle trim detail kept it fun and flirty. I accessorize with my thrifted bright yelllow crossbody bag and tan sandals with block heels (Payless : Sold Out). Mental note: melanin makes everything pop…including white.
Maxi dressses are my go to weapon of choice for effortless drama. I rocked this pink and dark purple palm print maxi dress from YoursClothing. YoursClothing provides clothing all the way to size 36 for women with various lifestyles.
