Today's my 31st birthday and I wanted to share with you some affirmations that I'm taking with me into the new year!
New Ways to Make Your Vision Board in 2018
This year I wanted to take a week or so to when I hone in on the goals I want to work towards for the rest of the year (and honestly just breathe in the new year). While my goals are not always set in concrete and I don’t know exactly how things will play out, I still like to have a general idea of what I want to do and how to get there. However, life is not always so cut and dry. I have a 9 to 5 like so many of you and I’m also a mom to my autistic son. On days (and weeks) when work life is hectic and I’m having a particularly challenging (exhausting) day with my son, I need visual reminders to help me stay focused and a vision board is the perfect start to that.
Vision Board
The most popular tool I will be creating is a vision board. It’s essentially a collage of images and/or quotes that resonate with the goals you’ve set out for yourself.
Collage wallpapers are definitely making a comeback aesthetically and it’s the easiest way to reminded throughout each day of the goals you set out to accomplish. Use photo editing tools like Picmonkey, Canva, Photoshop, or even Gimp (a free fully functional Photoshop) to create a collage like the ones below. Send them to your email or cloud-type platform, download, and save them as your wallpaper on all your devices.
Instagram Collections
If you’re on Instagram ( follow me @froplusfashion) you can take advantage of one of IG’s more recent features, collections. Collections definitely spares your phone’s memory from screenshotting the things you find inspiring and helpful towards achieving your goals. I currently have a positivity collection filled with positive quotes and encouraging videos. It literally feels like I have my personal life coach minus the bill. I also want to keep up the photography level on outfits for you guys so I have a photo shoot inspo collection. Whether it’s the angle of the shot, the pose, or the location it all stays in one place.
Gallery Wall of Visions
If you’re not a fan of having one random poster in your office or creative space, blending your goals into a gallery wall form is a more seamless option. You can also make a vision board a part of the bigger gallery wall picture by surrounding it with smaller framed photos.
Planner Giveaway
One of my goals was to start doing more giveaways, and this one is my start. I purchased a 12 month planner and a book of planner stickers for one lucky subscriber. I also got an extra cosmetics bag from Victoria Secret while I was holiday shopping. It’ll be great to hold all your planner supplies (sharpies, highlighters, pens, etc.) or you could just put your make up in it. See the giveaway rules below.

9 Clapbacks to “Dress Your Age” : TCFStyle Expo Recap
Here are my favorite clapbacks to the "dress your age" stigma from the 2017 The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo.
TCF Style Expo 2017 Style Recap: What I Wore
Hello August! This month high key means the end of summer for me. This summer was extra sweet because I had a little bit more freedom since my son spent his summer in the Virgin Islands. I was able to got to a few events to make connections, learn, and be inspired.
Most recently I attended the The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s the 3rd Annual TCF Style Expo to be put all the way on by plus size fashion pioneer Marie Denee.
This was my 1st fashion related event since relocating to the US and I’m glad that it was my 1st. While everyone shopped to their hearts content and slayed at each day of the 2 day event, there was a lot more to the TCF Style Expo than that.
We spoke about pressing issues in the plus size fashion industry like the lack of representation on ALL platforms of our favorite clothing companies. I listened in on panels about the social stigmas and generational insecurities that have inadvertently influenced the way we feel about and carry our plus size bodies. The plus size men showed up and show out by speaking about their struggles in finding plus size clothing they liked from fit to quality.
What I Wore at the TCF Style Expo 2017
Day 1
I’m calling this the Lemonade dress. I’ve never really worn a print with fruits on it before and this Ashley Stewart dress was a great way to check that off my “Tried it” list. While it was not form fitting the pop of shoulders with the ruffle trim detail kept it fun and flirty. I accessorize with my thrifted bright yelllow crossbody bag and tan sandals with block heels (Payless : Sold Out). Mental note: melanin makes everything pop…including white.
Day 2
Maxi dressses are my go to weapon of choice for effortless drama. I rocked this pink and dark purple palm print maxi dress from YoursClothing. YoursClothing provides clothing all the way to size 36 for women with various lifestyles.
Family Resorts Review: Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort
Searching for affordable family resorts can be a pain especially when you are searching for one where everybody wants to be. Somewhere like hmmm I don’t know Disney?! While on this particular trip I was not visiting Orlando for a Disney vacation, I found myself sifting through tons of family resorts. I recently attended the BlogHer 2017 Conference which was located in the Lake Buena Vista area.
I booked my event ticket to attend two weeks before the event, and with summer here all the hotel rates as expected were high. When I travel to new places for business or pleasure, I like to save the majority of my funds on having actual experiences than on my hotel, BUT I don’t think that the quality of the hotel has to be sacrificed when seeking an affordable rate.
So after some research, I booked Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort as our home away from home babe and myself.
Fees & Food Options at Family Resorts
With our hotel rate, resort fees, and valet parking fees our costs were around a 1/3 of what we would have paid at any of the neighboring family resorts. Priceline.com is my long time website of choice for booking anything from flights, rental cars, and hotel rooms. There’s an entire plaza across the street with a plethora of fast food and dine-in restaurants to choose from.
It was the first time I had ever paid for valet parking and at $12/day it was definitely worth it. Need I remind you Orlando in June is diabolically hot? On top of that it was just nice to hop in our car and go whenever we needed to vs walking around in the hot sun trying to find it.
Is It Like in the Pictures?
The grounds at Wyndham were absolutely gorgeous. While many would probably head straight to the pool (don’t worry I’m getting to that), I was in awe at all the lush greenery and picture perfect spots. It was a style blogger’s paradise, and I took full advantage.
We arrived late in the night and crashed before I could take any nice pictures of our room, but it was exactly as pictured on Priceline’s website. Please take into account that there is a difference in the type of room you will get via Priceline vs booking directly through Wyndham. I’m not sure, but I think it has to do with the fact that the rooms available via Priceline are at a significantly cheaper rate than the rooms advertised via Wyndham’s website.
Regardless I was still happy with the look of the room we received. Our room was clean, fully stocked with toiletries, and most importantly clean. 🙂
I think babe and I were most excited to get into the pool and relax. We were surprised to see that this family resort actually has two pools, a jacuzzi, AND a mini water park feature for the “kids”.
I’m sure my son wouldn’t mind missing out as he’s spending his summer in the Virgin Islands, but I knew this amenity would be his favorite.
I would definitely give this hotel a 4/5 rating and that’s only because my boyfriend enjoyed it more than I did. Maybe next time when I stay it would be for an actual vacay. *fingers crossed*
How to Not Suck at Celebrating Yourself
Ask me that a month ago and my answer would have been “I don’t know, let me know when you find out”.
I was the chick that made huge accomplishments and told absolutely no one, and did nothing to commemorate it. I just moved on to the next goal I dreamed up. There’s danger in not stopping for a moment to really recognize “Yasss, you did that! You put in the work, stayed on task, and did the damn thing.” I’m probably exaggerating about the level of danger. It’s not like Lord Voldemort is hellbent on destroying you over the course of years, but I’ll explain.
If you don’t stop to celebrate accomplishments/blessings (one in the same),you risk feeling unaccomplished AF when you come across difficulties in pursuing future goals.
So here are a few pieces of advice, tips, and ways to celebrate your accomplishments to boost your confidence & equip you with the “I’m a Boss” mentality that is necessary to plow through any bumps in the road ahead.
Before I share with you these tips, I must practice what I preach and share with you what I’m celebrating as my new year (I turned 30) just started.
