How I Prepare for Blogger Events
I’m just about packed and ready to go to New York to the Curvy Con! I’m super excited to be going because when I started blogging and creating videos on YouTube in the Virgin Islands I felt like access to events like this one would never be in my reach. Fast forward to 2018 and I’m going! Woohoo! Ok so this post is really about how I prepare for blogger events and I’m using my preparation for the Curvy Con as an example.
How I Prepare for Blogger Events
Blogger Event Tickets
More often than not, tickets to blogger events are made available for sale well in advance of the event date. This gives you more than enough time to sort out travel expenses in as much time as you need. Purchasing the blogger event ticket should be top priority especially if the event is extremely popular.
Flights
When it comes to flights I’ve always had the best luck with booking through Priceline, but you should always shop around! Compare prices through the different discount travel sites like Priceline and the prices given on the airline websites as well.
Hotels
When it comes to hotels, location is everything! Some blogger events offer a block hotel rooms with rates that may or may not be discounted. It’s very convenient to have a room located close to or right where the event is going to be even if it’s not affiliated with the blogger event. The distance between your hotel and the location of the event may also be a huge factor. While you may have saved on the hotel rate, the commute time may cost you if you’re using taxis and services like Uber. All things to keep in mind.
Check the Weather
With all the advance planning you can do, a sudden change in weather can make them epic fails. So check at least a couple days before you travel to make sure your looks are actually best for the weather.

The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo 2018 Recap
Hey y’all I’m back from my weekend trip to ATL to attend The Curvy Fashionista Style Expo 2018. This expo with jam packed with panels, fashion shows, vendor experiences, and so much more. Here’s some of the highlights and photos from the event!
Plus Size WOC Can Cosplay Too!
Cosplay is basically dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game, especially one from the Japanese genres of manga and anime. You can also dress up and be characters that you’ve dreamed up all on your own.
With the majority of characters out their being white and straight sized the misconception that you can’t do it if you’re plus size or a women of color exists (and needs to die). Not only can we cosplay, but we can kill it in the cosplay game.
So the ladies in this panel encouraged women with their own stories, costume creation tips to go out there and be whatever creature or character they want to be. I’ve only attempted closet cosplay (cosplay using ready to wear clothes from your closet) once for Halloween. After this panel, I now feel encouraged to have more cosplay fun in the future.

Family Resorts Review: Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort
Searching for affordable family resorts can be a pain especially when you are searching for one where everybody wants to be. Somewhere like hmmm I don’t know Disney?! While on this particular trip I was not visiting Orlando for a Disney vacation, I found myself sifting through tons of family resorts. I recently attended the BlogHer 2017 Conference which was located in the Lake Buena Vista area.
I booked my event ticket to attend two weeks before the event, and with summer here all the hotel rates as expected were high. When I travel to new places for business or pleasure, I like to save the majority of my funds on having actual experiences than on my hotel, BUT I don’t think that the quality of the hotel has to be sacrificed when seeking an affordable rate.
So after some research, I booked Wyndham Lake Buena Vista Resort as our home away from home babe and myself.
Fees & Food Options at Family Resorts
With our hotel rate, resort fees, and valet parking fees our costs were around a 1/3 of what we would have paid at any of the neighboring family resorts. Priceline.com is my long time website of choice for booking anything from flights, rental cars, and hotel rooms. There’s an entire plaza across the street with a plethora of fast food and dine-in restaurants to choose from.
It was the first time I had ever paid for valet parking and at $12/day it was definitely worth it. Need I remind you Orlando in June is diabolically hot? On top of that it was just nice to hop in our car and go whenever we needed to vs walking around in the hot sun trying to find it.
Is It Like in the Pictures?
The grounds at Wyndham were absolutely gorgeous. While many would probably head straight to the pool (don’t worry I’m getting to that), I was in awe at all the lush greenery and picture perfect spots. It was a style blogger’s paradise, and I took full advantage.
We arrived late in the night and crashed before I could take any nice pictures of our room, but it was exactly as pictured on Priceline’s website. Please take into account that there is a difference in the type of room you will get via Priceline vs booking directly through Wyndham. I’m not sure, but I think it has to do with the fact that the rooms available via Priceline are at a significantly cheaper rate than the rooms advertised via Wyndham’s website.
Regardless I was still happy with the look of the room we received. Our room was clean, fully stocked with toiletries, and most importantly clean. 🙂
I think babe and I were most excited to get into the pool and relax. We were surprised to see that this family resort actually has two pools, a jacuzzi, AND a mini water park feature for the “kids”.
I’m sure my son wouldn’t mind missing out as he’s spending his summer in the Virgin Islands, but I knew this amenity would be his favorite.
I would definitely give this hotel a 4/5 rating and that’s only because my boyfriend enjoyed it more than I did. Maybe next time when I stay it would be for an actual vacay. *fingers crossed*
