The music festival is officially upon us. This weekend and the following weekend all eyes will be on Coachella and summer will bring more music festivals. Electric Daisy Carnival, Afropunk, Essence Fest, Okeechobee Music Festival (on my list for next year) and so much more. Outside of getting to hear your favorite music artists live and gaining some new faves along the way, seeing all the expressions of music festival style is an awesome experience as well. Before you head out to your favorite department stores to get your music festival, save those coins for the festival food, merchandise, and drinks. Isn’t that what really matters? 🙂
Here are 7 music festival style pieces that you can easily thrift for the low.
Music Festival Bags
Thrift stores always have fun, festive, and quirky bags that are perfect for music festivals. Whether it’s a vintage fanny pack, crossbody bag to hold your cash or cards, or a huge carry all tote, they can all be found there.
Canvas Sneaks & Wader Boots
The grounds at music festivals tend to get dusty or even muddy (if rain is in the forcast). Rain or shine the festivals probably aren’t the best place to rock your nice Nikes or Fenty Pumas. Just don’t do it. Buy a cheap pair of canvas sneaks or wader boots that you won’t mind ruining with dust or mud.
Crochet and Embroidered Everything
Crocheted and embroidered pieces are music festival staples that aren’t going away any time soon. That’s good news because it means you will always find them in your local thrift stores as well. It’s also an excellent place to find unique pieces that no one else will be rocking.
Sunnies, Sunnies, and More Sunnies
Sunglasses are not just a style essential they’re a health essential as well. They block ultra violet rays that can over time be damaging to your eyes and reduce eye strain from glares. Don’t expect to see a bunch of chunky outdated sunnies that look like the pair your gramps wears for his eye issues. Then again that might be a good look. I’ve witnessed lots of interesting outfits (or lack thereof). Seriously, I’ve been able to find glasses that look just like the retro and stylish glasses you often see in your favorite department stores.
Denim For Days
Denim is one thing that most thrift stores have a plethora of. So before you drop serious bucks on some distressed cut off jeans hit up the thrift stores. I’ve also seen many denim bottoms that are festival ready with embroidery, crochet accents, and so many other embellishments.
Shady Hats
Now that we’ve got your eyes covered, thrift a straw hat or fitted “dad” baseball cap. Most festivals have resting/seating areas, but they’re often off the side with not the best views of the stages. So it’s always a good idea to have a hat handy.
T-shirts Tie Dye For
I almost forgot about tie dye shirts, but this bioniclly bright yellow green and blue tee instantly jogged my memory. 🙂 The best place to find these shirts are in the men’s section. Actually it’s a great place to find oversized tee shirts with cool graphics to chop up and distress for a grunge vibe.
You see thrift stores have you covered. After buying the festival tickets and travel expenses, thrifting your music festival gear is a great way to save some coins. Whew! All this talk about music festivals has me wanting to go to one.
Are you going to any music festivals this year? Would you save some coins and thrift any pieces for the big day?
