If you’ve read my recap of the Capital City Natural Hair and Health Expo reading this in order, then you already know what’s up with this post. This look was too much to talk about to only get a couple sentences so here we are! I shared this look on Instagram and the love on the hair, the makeup, and this plus size leopard print matching set was unreal. So I had to follow up with a “What I Wore” post and a highly requested visual of how I did my hair.
This Plus Size Leopard Print Matching Set Though!
Let’s get into the outfit first, because I’m so proud to share that I got it from Forever 21. This is the 3rd plus size matching set I’ve purchased from Forever 21 (see the 1st here and the 2nd here). Now as usual wide leg pants and my petite 5’3” stature is likely to be a problem, but as Tim Gunn would say “Make It Work”. I didn’t have time to hem my pants for this event so I just pulled the waist up really high and layered the bottom of the off-the-shoulder top over it. This made everyone think it was a jumpsuit. I added a little height with my low block heels from ASOS (similar versions here and here).
The Hair
As for my hair I really wasn’t expecting the great reception that it got. I got loads of compliments and some people asked if I was a hair stylist. That’s exactly why roll, tuck, and pins are one of my favorite styling options when my lazy natural ways kick in. After marathon blogging all Saturday I did not feel like doing a twistout at night. Hell to the nah. On the day of the event I added some leave in conditioners to my hair and stretched it out using the blow dry tension method. Then I decided to go with this easy roll tuck and pin crown updo. Roll tuck and pins is one of the easiest protective styles to do that looks like it took more effort than it did.
This style literally took me less than 5 minutes to make. Lazy natural approved.
Here’s a demo on how I created my roll tuck and pin crown updo.
